  • Long Night of Research - HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein

    On April 24, 2026, the Long Night of Research 2026 take place throughout Austria, and the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, together with other research-active departments of the BMLUK (Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection), will participate in the Palm House in the Burggarten (Imperial Palace Gardens) in Vienna. Visitors will experience current research – to view, touch, and participate in.

    How does the biodiverse landscape of the Alps come about ? Under this motto, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein vividly presented its research areas on alpine farming and biodiversity.

  • SatGrass App - Course Offerings

    Online introductory course for the SatGrass app Gumpenstein

    Digitalization opens up exciting new opportunities for agriculture! With the SatGrass App Gumpenstein will be available free of charge to farmers throughout Austria from mid-March 2026 for the first time a satellite-based tool that provides simple and sound support for practical decisions on the farm.

    • With the SatGrass app, you can check the quality and yield of your meadows daily and individually for each plot on your farm, directly on your mobile phone or PC. Additionally, you can also estimate the future development of quality and yield using our weather data models!

Federal Higher Teaching and Research Institute for Agriculture Raumberg-Gumpenstein

The HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein unites research and teaching under one roof and is the largest department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management. Austrian agriculture relies on a comprehensive quality strategy. The HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein supports this approach through research, education, consulting, and teaching.

Research and teaching at the cutting edge

In addition to a modern school for over 400 students, the teaching and training facilities HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.

In applied research, we work with enthusiasm at our five locations and in on-farm projects, addressing the future challenges facing the Austrian agricultural and food sectors. We utilize innovative experimental facilities, laboratories, barns, and diverse test plots. The rapid dissemination of our knowledge to practitioners, consultants, educators, and the public is important to us. To this end, we collaborate with universities and research institutions, consultants, associations, processing and marketing companies, educational institutions, policymakers and stakeholders, NGOs, and especially with farmers from Austria and abroad. Our research findings, as well as our modern communication tools and educational events, are highly valued.
