The HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein is actively committed to quickly communicating research results to young people and supporting teaching at agricultural schools. Starting in the fall, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management and the University of Agricultural and Environmental Education, two new and compact online seminar series specifically for teachers at agricultural schools.
BIO AUSTRIA has launched an exciting educational project on (organic) cattle breeding in 2024 in close collaboration with the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein Organic Institute and the main players in (organic) cattle breeding in Austria.
Raumberg-Gumpenstein has, for the first time, calculated the effect of all greenhouse gas emissions on the energy balance of the atmosphere for a region (the federal state of Carinthia). These results and additional life cycle assessments of food production in the state were summarized in the concept of functional climate protection. This provides decision-makers with a new, innovative tool for defining climate protection measures.

In September, the HBLFA podcast series on the topic “ How can I prepare for climate change on my farm ” . This audio and video series, which appears every 14 days, complements short specialist articles that appear in LANDWIRT over a year. Very specific tips and advice are given for farmers on how to adapt to the climate on their farm.

On November 8, 2024, the Institute for Livestock Research at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein held the 13th specialist conference for sheep farming, which takes place every two years. The event was held as a hybrid event and was very well attended with around 180 participants, 130 of whom were on site.
The HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein combines research and teaching under one roof and is the largest department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management. Austrian agriculture relies on a comprehensive quality strategy. The HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein supports this path through research, education, advice and teaching.
the teaching and training includes a boarding school, both a conventional and an organic teaching and research farm with its own livestock, a teaching forest, various practice rooms and workshops, and a processing center for meat, milk and fruit , a chemistry and a biology laboratory as well as a teaching biotope are available. The close intersection of teaching and research is important to us. “Science in School” and modern methods of imparting knowledge through motivated teachers characterize the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.
