The Higher Federal Training and Research Institute for Agriculture ( HBLFA ) has been conducting practice-oriented research in agriculture for more than 60 years, especially for grassland and livestock farms in the Alpine region.
Due to its central location in the Alpine region, very conveniently located at the intersection of the Limestone and Central Alps, the site is representative of a large part of the Alpine region with a rainfall of around 1000 mm and an annual mean temperature of 7.2° C. The experimental results achieved can be directly transferred and applied to large areas at home and abroad.
At the central location in Gumpenstein near Irdning, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein currently manages around 150 hectares. To record the different soil and climate conditions within the Alpine region, the HBLFA has permanent branch offices in Admont, Oberalm near Hallein (Winklhof), Piber and Kobenz near Knittelfeld. All departments together look after around 9,000 experimental plots. The Institute for Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity in Wels-Thalheim and Lambach has been affiliated with the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein since June 2002.
