In Piber, as part of research activities, grassland experiments (permanent grassland, fertilization and usage intensities, crop rotation experiments, official variety value tests and basic propagation of forage plant seeds) have been carried out since 1961.
The location in western Styria near Köflach at an altitude of 450 m above sea level, with a rainfall of around 880 mm and an annual mean temperature of 9.9° C, enables long-term studies in permanent grassland and the comparison of the experimental results achieved with those of other experimental stations.
