As the largest department of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein is the center for research, teaching and education in rural areas.

With effect from January 1, 2005, the original Federal Institute for Alpine Agriculture Gumpenstein (BAL) was merged with the Higher Federal Teaching Institute Raumberg (HBLA) to form the Higher Federal Teaching and Research Institute Raumberg-Gumpenstein (HBLFA).

General objectives of the HBLFA:

  • Recognize important developments in agriculture, forestry, economy, politics and society; scientific processing of relevant questions
  • Planning, initiation and implementation of research and educational collaborations at national and international levels
  • Scientific development of comprehensive crop-growing, livestock-specific and technical fundamentals (exact tests, on-farm research, field tests, modeling, balance tests)
  • Creation of expertise and concepts for the long-term security of agricultural operations, to avoid usage conflicts and to consolidate ecological and sustainable agriculture
  • Knowledge and technology transfer through lectures, advice, field days, instructions, regulations, information sheets, standards, assessment systems, training, labeling systems and the like.
  • Development of innovative products
