Sustainable food management through knowledge of agricultural animal husbandry

The job of food manager often forms the link between agriculture and consumers. For this purpose, it is very important to have in-depth knowledge of agricultural production processes. The “ Sustainable Food Management” course at the FH Joanneum Graz covers all processes along the food value chain, starting with agriculture and processing through to trade and consumption.

The course “Applied Animal Husbandry ” is designed by lecturers from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. A number of specialists from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, coordinated by Dr. Elfriede Ofner-Schröck course content on cattle, pig, sheep and goat farming, animal breeding, animal nutrition and environmental impacts from agriculture. Through this comprehensive knowledge about the origin of food , food managers are able to consciously select food produced according to the highest standards in their professional activities and pass it on to consumers, thereby supporting the valuable work of our farmers.

On January 26, 2024, the students of the LEB22 class visited the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein as part of an excursion to gain insights into practical animal husbandry and current research projects. We would like to thank you for the good cooperation and wish the students much success for the future.
