Soil, plants, animals, and fertilizers form a cycle in which food is produced. In this closed cycle, precisely the amount of nutrients required for food production is supplied. However, high levels of external inputs, which can disrupt this cycle, and the modern mechanization of agriculture can lead to environmental impacts that affect our essential resources: soil, water, and air. The Eco-Efficiency research group uses the "FarmLife" management tool to assess these environmental impacts at the farm level, enabling a comparison of individual farms regarding the environmental sustainability of their management practices.
FarmLife – Advice for the future
FarmLife is a management tool that supports farms in their efforts to achieve site-appropriate and performance-oriented production. By minimizing emissions and losses, FarmLife makes it easier for farms to reach their ecological and economic goals! Interested farms can contact Dr. Thomas Guggenberger, Herndl Dr. Markus or Mag. Christian Fritz . Regional workshops will be offered if there is sufficient interest, where farm managers can learn how to use FarmLife.
