After two years of being held online, the meeting was held in person again this year. For this purpose, a four-person delegation from the Eco-Efficiency Research Group went to the Agroscope Reckenholz location in Zurich.
On the first day, May 31st, the 12th Life Cycle Assessment Platform for Agriculture and Food was attended with the general theme “Nutrition and the environment: How can we eat healthily and in an environmentally friendly way?” Based on the methodological basis of life cycle assessment, numerous specialist lectures were devoted to current issues, such as the health and environmental impacts of meat and milk substitute products, the effects of food loss and food waste on the environment or which dietary patterns can lead to a healthy and environmentally friendly diet.
On the second day, June 1st, the actual annual meeting took place with the life cycle assessment research group chaired by Dr. Gerard Gaillard. The aim and content was the strategic exchange about ongoing and completed work and about future research directions. The exchange discussed the further development of the methods and tools used (i.e. SALCAfuture and FarmLife), new developments and implementations such as animal welfare and biodiversity assessment, completed work on eco-efficiency and planned projects towards a location-adapted circular economy.
