1st meeting of the practice group “Cow-bound calf rearing”

Cow-bound calf rearing is an innovative system in dairy farming. The EU project TransformDairyNet is intended to examine practical systems for cow-based calf rearing and to exchange and transfer knowledge on this topic. Eleven European countries are taking part in this project. In the participating countries, practical groups of farmers will work on current topics and future innovations in cow-based rearing.

The first meeting of the Austria-wide practical group “Cow-bound calf rearing in dairy farming” took place in December 2024 at the Bio-Institute of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein at Moarhof. At the beginning, the project was presented by the practice group moderator for Austria, DI Jakob Gadermaier from Bio Austria Upper Austria. After the presentation of the participating companies, a tour of the stables at Moarhof took place. Following this, the challenges of cow-based calf rearing were identified and solution ideas and innovations were developed from these. The colleagues at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein will devote more of their research to this topic in the future and would like to thank you for the good cooperation in the practice-oriented working group .
