    Legumes and their nutrient requirements

The legumes, which are important in organic farming, are essentially responsible for building up a reservoir of nitrogen and also for supplying subsequent crops with it.

However, since the binding of atmospheric nitrogen is directly related to other nutrients, it is important to keep an eye on their levels in the soil. In addition to sulfur, phosphorus also plays a key role in the fixation process. Sulfur in particular plays an important role and, in the event of a deficiency, can have a tenfold impact on the nitrogen balance. The sharp decline in inputs from the atmosphere over the last three decades makes the question of additional sulfur fertilization explosive at various locations.

The attached article describes the effects of fertilization with sulfur and phosphorus in different variants on the grain legumes field beans, peas, lupine and soy and their background.
