Animal husbandry systems, technology and emissions

In a large, modular project in collaboration with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, ten different farrowing crates are being compared. The present subproject deals with barn climate issues and the thermoregulation and excretion behavior of sows and piglets.

Stable systems and stable facilities for agricultural animals are currently being brought onto the market in Austria without being tested for compliance with applicable animal protection law or for animal welfare.

This can result in economic losses for the farmer and injuries and illnesses for the animals. A comparative review of stable facilities creates the opportunity to improve the protection of farm animals, increase investment security for farmers and strengthen consumer confidence. But stable furnishing companies are also offered advisory support in the development of husbandry systems.
