The Science Days take place several times a year. In this context, students from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein come into the research areas and gain a direct, practical insight into current agricultural research and testing. In order to make this possible for external schools, the “Student Specialist Day” took place on June 21, 2023. Over 350 students from external agricultural schools from all over Austria received practical insights into 22 research areas.
One of these areas is climate change in agriculture. To this end, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein is working as part of the “ClimGrass - climate impact research for grassland” project. Other specialist topics included, for example, energy costs and climate footprint, heat stress in animals, adaptation of plants to changing climatic conditions and getting to know sustainable farming methods.
The Science Day enabled young people to come into direct contact with researchers and discuss questions. In order to make the acquired knowledge available in the long term, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein offers the documents prepared by the scientists as a free download on the website. The documents provide a brief, current overview of the respective topic and can, for example, be followed up in class.
The transfer of knowledge between research and schools offers a valuable opportunity to show young people the importance of science and innovation in solving current problems - such as climate change in agriculture.
