    Research project on bioaerosols in livestock farming - publication of two studies in well-known journals

     

    That, under the direction of Ms. Priv.-Doz. Mag. Doris Haas, from the Diagnostics and Research Institute for Hygiene, Microbiology and Environmental Medicine at Med. Univ. Graz, Austria's first project to investigate bioaerosol emissions and immissions from agricultural livestock farming is now in its final phase. The Stmk office acts as a cooperation partner for “ Luquasta State government (Department 15) and the Animal Husbandry Systems, Technology & Emissions Department of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.

    As part of the three-year project period, in addition to the more than 30 days of surveys on two pig and poultry farms in practice, additional investigations were carried out in the surroundings of the sampled farms and in the poultry and pig stables of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. This work was carried out by students from the Karl Franzens University of Graz, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, to obtain the academic degree of Magistra/Magister in Pharmacy, and was accompanied by colleagues from the stable support team in the Animal Husbandry Systems, Technology & Emissions Department. 

    Two master's theses were recently published in well-known scientific journals HBLFA The work of D. Haas, S. Köck et. al., Bioaerosol measurements over a fattening period in a pig barn focused on the presence of Staphylococcus spp. , the study, Cultivable , Mesophilic Bacteria and Dust Particles in the Air in Urban, Rural and Mountain Regions , by D. Haas, A. Kriso et. al. in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health .

    Luquasta is currently working on the final project report; Reporting to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism is planned by the end of the first half of 2021.
