The event on the topic of “ Satellite information for efficient grassland management ” attracted great interest with almost 80 participants from Germany and neighboring countries. In addition to representatives of practical agriculture and agricultural educational institutions, who actively helped with the sampling of their areas, numerous representatives from different areas of the Austrian agricultural landscape also found their way to Raumberg-Gumpenstein.
An important concern of this conference was the motivation of decision-makers to implement the research project into a “product” that can be used for agriculture - a tool that both supports the agricultural business in management and also offers those institutions a qualified information basis that collects data about the want to evaluate ongoing development of yields and feed quality in grassland. This conference was intended to prepare the ground for this.
The SatGrass project also sets international standards due to the exceptionally extensive and high-quality data basis and the resulting high estimation accuracy and broad application possibilities : It is the basis for broad cooperation in the field of remote sensing-based grassland research beyond the borders of Austria.
The primary goal, however, is to provide local grassland businesses with useful support in the management of their land.
