    Federal Minister Totschnig visits the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein

    Our Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig visited us on March 4, 2024 under the motto “Shaping the future - agricultural teaching and research in tune with the times”.

    At the Higher Federal Teaching and Research Unit Raumberg-Gumpenstein, future issues in the agriculture and food industry are currently being scientifically addressed over 80 research projects The close connection between teaching and research at the Raumberg-Gumpenstein location is also particularly valuable for the over 400 students.

    On Monday, March 4th, Federal Minister Nobert Totschnig visited his largest office to find out about current research results, ongoing projects and also the collaboration between research and teaching.

    “I am proud that the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein combines academic work with practical relevance at the highest level. The involvement of young people in research is also exemplary and particularly valuable,” said Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig enthusiastically after his tour of the research areas of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.

     

     

    SatGrass project was able to show that yield and quality trends in grassland can be calculated daily and very precisely at plot level for the whole of Austria from complex satellite and weather data with the help of AI (“machine learning & neural networks”).

    The organic food crops project deals with cultivation strategies and options for alternative crops in organic farming, such as sweet potatoes, lentils, dry beans, etc.

    Strategies for breeding for energy efficiency and reducing methane emissions for the Austrian cattle industry are being researched in the Breed4Green and, based on this, climate protection solutions are being developed.

    Together with farmers and research partners, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein in the IbeST . for practical solutions for adapting existing fully slatted pig fattening stables.

    The close collaboration between research and teaching is particularly valuable for the students at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. At the Science Days four times a year, students get a deep insight into “Gumpensteiner” research. Experiments are also carried out together on students' diploma theses.

    As part of the ministerial visit, students presented results from their diploma theses and discussed the results with Federal Minister Totschnig . The Federal Minister would like to thank all employees of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein for their pioneering work.

    “I wish you many more good ideas, successful research work, an intensive exchange with young people and I look forward to many more innovative suggestions from Raumberg-Gumpenstein,” said the Federal Minister.
