In connection with land consumption and soil sealing and the associated loss of natural habitats, the extensive roof is coming into focus as one of the possible replacement habitats, even in rural areas.

Extensive roofs are currently being greened with a mixture of sedum sprouts and herbs from different origins on standardized substrates made of volcanic tuff, brick chippings and the like. The use of native and partially protected species of semi-dry grasslands from the inner Alpine area on appropriate substrates from the region can mean a strengthening of the native flora and the associated fauna in urban and rural areas. The project aims to investigate the sowing of seeds that were obtained on existing semi-dry lawns in the region. One variant is spread with additional meadow threshing and can bring a greater potential of diaspores to the new location (roof area) compared to spreading pure seeds.

The extensive roof is also coming into focus in rural areas.
