The success story of the Sonnenalm dairy farm: tradition, sustainability and modern agriculture combined in a unique cooperative
The Sonnenalm dairy farm, organized by farmers, was founded almost 30 years ago in the community of Klein St. Paul in Carinthia. In the cooperative, the milk from 12 cattle farms and two goat farms is refined and marketed throughout Carinthia - and also the neighboring countries - via a variety of channels. In addition, there is a milk experience world at the processing plant, courses on milk processing are offered in the cheese school and special emphasis is placed on “experiencing” sustainable agriculture and food production.
In the podcast Dr. Andreas Steinwidder with the manager, farmer and chairman of the cooperative Hannes Zechner. You will learn a lot of valuable information about setting up a dairy farm, the challenges and strengths of the cooperative, important partners, the importance of family farms in the community and changing customer requirements.
