The lessons for the subject of applied microbiology take place in the 3rd year UR (environmental and resource management) for 3 hours per week.

The students expand their knowledge on the subject of microorganisms in varied and interactive lessons. After working out the basics regarding the meaning, systematics, growth and metabolic performance of the microorganisms, the students delve deeper into the topic.

In the field of microorganisms and genetic engineering, they deal with genetic engineering methods such as cloning using plasmids, polymerase chain reaction or CRISPR-Cas 9, to name a few examples. The application of microorganisms involves, among other things, wastewater treatment, soil remediation and composting. In the area of hygiene, students learn important basics about HACCP concepts as well as the critical view of CCPs. Another focus is personnel and operational hygiene.
