    Expansion and renovation of our dining room

    More space for healthy eating

    At the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, the catering area for our students, employees and the numerous participants in our specialist events was put on a completely new footing - on October 15th, this new catering area was opened by Federal Minister Mag. Nobert Totschnig and our director Dr. Johann Gasteiner ceremoniously opened.

    During the 2024 summer holidays, the existing dining room at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, which had a very limited capacity of only 170 seats, was expanded to 360 seats . As part of the renovation and expansion work, the previous dining room from the 1960s was also renovated, acoustically optimized and newly equipped.

    A basement in the new dining room now serves as storage for furniture and equipment and a terrace with access from the Grimming Hall offers an incomparable view over the Ennstal. The processes in the school kitchen and in the serving area have also been optimized and so all students can now eat their food at the same time and in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere. Furthermore, it will be possible to supply conference participants and external course visitors through our kitchen with this newly created capacity in the future.

    Healthy, regional, organic - high level of self-sufficiency

    With the support of an external kitchen consultant and nutrition and health experts, the kitchen processes were reorganized and the menu composition was created in accordance with a healthy and balanced diet. The use of organically produced food and regionally sourced food, depending on seasonal availability, is a top priority in Raumberg-Gumpenstein. As an agricultural teaching and research company, we are able to provide all of the meat required (beef, pork, lamb) as well as milk and cheese products as well as potatoes and a variety of crops from our own production - mainly from organic production.

    The students at HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein are integrated into the cycle from production to processing and ultimately consumption of high-quality food.

    Innovative sustainable overall concept in food management

    , more than 400 students and our employees are provided with high-quality food. There are 2 menus and a component meal (part of the menu) for the employees to choose from. The menu can be pre-ordered registration systems in the school area, “ Eatey ”. Eaty is an electronic registration and deregistration system with automated billing in the background as well as interfaces to other tools established in the school sector ( Edu.Pay, BKVWIN ).

    Contemporary techniques and tools as well as high-quality food are the prerequisite for a perfect menu in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere - Raumberg-Gumpenstein has achieved this goal with the new construction and adaptation of the dining room. 

    Project process - dining room extension

    In mid-September 2023, an initial planning meeting for the “dining room expansion and conversion” project took place at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. In this phase, the planning basis was developed and the specialist planners were subsequently involved. The planned implementation period extends from April 2024 to December 2024 or January 2025. However, it soon became clear that completion by December 2024 would only allow schools and boarding schools to operate at considerable cost or with enormous effort. For this reason, a binding completion date of September 8, 2024 was set.

    Another challenge arose during the planning process, as adaptations also had to be made in the kitchen and serving area. The following section shows the construction process up to overall completion on the timeline. 

    Preliminary draft / draft / submission

    Construction begins on the extension – new dining room

    • 03.2024 Start of construction site setup, demolition work and infrastructure measures (laying down water pipes, fiber optics, etc.)
    • Completion of the reinforced concrete work at the end of June 2024
    • July 1st, 2024 and simultaneous start of expansion work on the extension
    • Commissioning September 9, 2024
    • Total completion10.2024 / overall accident-free!
