Exchange programs and funding opportunities for summer internships in Europe

On October 14th, an event finally took place again in the Grimming Hall of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. Ms. Magistra Barbara Sterkl, from Rural Youth Austria, introduced our students to the Rural Youth exchange program and the Erasmus+ funding program for stays abroad.

At the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein we attach great importance to practical training. Therefore, compulsory internships are also planned in the summer months. Many of our students use their 22-week practical period for stays in Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Italy and Germany. In doing so, they not only acquire basic technical knowledge - they also become more independent, get to know new cultures and improve their English skills. Anyone who takes care of their practice placement early enough not only receives help via our practice platform, but can also be referred through the rural youth. And the best thing about it is that these stays - whether through placement or self-placement - are supported by the EU through Erasmus+ funding. We have had a partnership with the Rural Youth Austria for around 10 years - from there the funding applications are submitted to the EU. So far, around 25 to 40 students have been supported annually - but this system collapsed this summer due to the lockdown. So that this unique and exciting path to Europe remains open to our students, it is important to inform them about it early enough - “You have to go the route yourself”
