Four hectares of wild bee pasture for the “BeeWild” species protection project

There has been a successful cooperation between the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and the “ BeeWild ” initiative since the beginning of the year. The focus of this initiative is on creating an ideal food source and safe nesting places for bees and other insects. A seed mixture with 50 native wild plants that are genetically adapted to our natural areas is the basis for the large-scale establishment of high-quality biodiversity areas specifically for our wild flower pollinators.

The partnership between “BeeWild” and the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein guarantees the unique quality of the plants for the local wildlife. As part of a press conference at a wild bee pasture in Weiz, Ariane Pfleger, board director of the Raiffeisen-Landesbank (RLB) Steiermark, together with representatives of the species protection project “BeeWild” and Bernhard Krautzer, head of the institute for plant production and cultural landscape at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein , draw attention to the importance of biodiversity.

Against this background, RLB Steiermark has activated four hectares of land for species protection as a species protection patron . The area is located at a fruit growing company and is the largest in the BeeWild project to date. Through this commitment, meadows are protected, creating a habitat for tens of thousands of insects, birds, small game and valuable plants.

By the way: Anyone can become a BeeWild species protection patron : one euro can protect one square meter of biodiversity area. By registering at www.beewild.com the desired area is activated. Farmers manage these areas using the seed mixture described, which consists exclusively of flowering plants and does not contain any grasses. The sustainability of the measures is monitored by the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and supported by scientific projects.
