As part of the Austrian specialist conference for organic agriculture on November 16, 2023, more than 100 conference participants from research, consulting, teaching and practice exchanged views on current issues in organic agriculture.
At the beginning of the event, Dr. Johann Gasteiner and the research director Dr. Andreas Steinwidder from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein thanked Ms. DI Veronika Edler , who retired as a consultant from BIO AUSTRIA , for the excellent and cooperative collaboration over the last 25 years. Together, a lot has been achieved for organic agriculture in Austria.
HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein's international Farm4More project to obtain protein from clover, alfalfa and grass for chickens and pigs were discussed. The KLEEKFRAT concept for producing valuable green cobbs was also presented.
Topics on organic livestock farming were the focus of the second lecture block. Questions about sustainable organic livestock farming, organic dairy farming and the value of organic fertilizers in the farm cycle and for the soil were addressed. In the afternoon, opportunities for adapting to climate change in operations were examined by research, consulting and practice. The last block of lectures dealt with ways to optimize teaching about organic farming in schools .
