SURE - Successful regreening after infrastructural measures

The aim of this INTERREG IIIB project was to put into practice the findings of applied research and experiences from recent years in the area of ecological revegetation after large-scale construction measures and to pass them on to the people and institutions directly involved in this subject area.

This is intended to avoid past mistakes in the future and create a contemporary standard.

This standard is intended to guarantee sustainable recultivation and restoration, taking ecological aspects into account, even under extreme site conditions.

The aim of the sustainable recultivation of ski slopes, road embankments and roadside areas as well as former open-cast mining areas is to create a pleasant landscape that promotes the quality of life of the population and has corresponding ecological value. Ecological recultivation or revegetation with site-appropriate seeds or plant material, combined with improved application techniques, also brings cost savings if the follow-up costs for fertilization and maintenance that arise specifically when using seed material that is not appropriate for the site are taken into account.

Plant material or seeds that are appropriate for the location also bring increased ecological value to agricultural areas and create the conditions for the establishment of plant communities worthy of protection and the preservation of threatened ecotypes.
