Goals and tasks
Animal husbandry systems, technology and emissions
The focus of the department is on evaluating husbandry techniques for pigs, poultry and horses - studies on emissions, stable climate and animal health are carried out on all types of agricultural livestock.
Animal husbandry systems are (further) developed and scientifically examined with regard to stable climate, animal performance, animal welfare and animal health. In collaboration with the Department for Animal-Friendly Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare, the department acts as a testing center for new animal husbandry technology. Another key focus is on the recording, quantification and evaluation of emissions and the associated immissions from agricultural livestock farming. Recognized technology for measuring ammonia, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, odor, dust and noise is available.
In cooperation with the Diagnostics & Research Institute for Hygiene, Microbiology and Environmental Medicine, Univ. in Graz .
Studies on the influence of feed and feed additives on emissions and animal performance are carried out in the department's own experimental stables for fattening pigs and poultry. The main approach here is to reduce emissions in the animal sector.
Technically sound support is offered within the framework of agricultural authority, approval and complaint procedures.
