    Advances and future prospects in cattle breeding: insights into performance, feeding and global initiatives

    The performance, feeding and husbandry levels changed significantly in the last few decades - both globally and in Austria . For example, in 1950 the milk production level of dairy cows in Austria was around 3000 kg. Today, the control cows produce an average of almost 8,000 kg of milk per cow per year. Breeding has contributed significantly to this increase in performance.

    In the podcast conversation by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Andreas Steinwidder with Univ. Prof. Dr. Johann Sölkner from the Institute of Livestock Science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences will discuss the development of cattle breeding . The internationally recognized and widely cited researcher Johann Sölkner presents important methodological milestones and background information in breeding . In addition, the initiatives underway in Africa for location-adapted animal breeding and the preservation of endangered livestock breeds in Austria will also be discussed. A look into the future of cattle breeding rounds off the podcast episode.
