The role of agriculture in the energy transition - 63rd Podcast

Agriculture and forestry generate eleven times more energy than they need

Energy-fit farms know their energy consumption and take active measures to remain competitive despite rising energy costs. Local farmers are directly affected by climate change and are therefore an important factor for the upcoming changes.

Agriculture and forestry are the only producing sectors that have managed to reduce emissions by around 15 percent compared to 1990 reduction measures In addition, our sector is capable of storing large amounts of carbon in soils and biomass . The sustainable circular economy helps to curb the further accumulation of harmful fossil CO 2 in the atmosphere.

The use of innovative energy technologies strengthens competitiveness and creates modern agricultural and forestry businesses for future generations. Styrian farmers manage their farms in an energy-efficient manner, as independently as possible from fossil fuels and thereby maintain an environment worth living in.

Through his many years of contact with agricultural and forestry practice, Dr. Christian Metschina explains the path to energy-efficient operation and knows the hurdles and opportunities. In conversation with Priv.-Doz. Dr. Andreas Steinwidder talks about his experiences with renewable energy. In this podcast, the two also talk about the different options available to each company, how to get started with sustainable use, and business considerations. Listen:
