Whether for drinking water, for producing food or for generating energy. Water is a limited resource; its availability depends not only on the quantity, but above all on the quality. Keeping the waters clean secures our livelihood
Climate-adapted land use is a major task for the protection of water resources and flood risk management, which is primarily implemented through interdisciplinary collaboration between research, education and advice through so-called knowledge networks. At the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, numerous initiatives are being taken in research and teaching.
This year, students majoring in environmental and resource management are once again completing a 3-day research internship at WasserCluster Lunz and in the Dürrenstein-Lassingtal wilderness area. Students write interesting diploma theses on the topics of protection against floods, ecomorphological quality assessment of running waters, self-cleaning power of water bodies, microplastics in water bodies or the recultivation of fallow wet meadows for flood retention and the preservation of biodiversity and take part in international projects and specialist conferences on water and flood protection . The interdisciplinary research into climate changes and effects on soil water balance and yields in grassland farming is an important task.
