LK silage project 2024 for grass silage and silage maize

LK silage project 2024 was initiated for this year's basic feed season in order to work together with farmers to improve the quality of fermented feed, to gain and disseminate current findings and to promote systematic, qualitative professionalization of the companies.

The LK silage project is organized by

    • the feeding representatives of the state chambers of agriculture ,
    • together with the project partners milk production working group ,
    • State Control Association (LKV),
    • Machine ring,
    • the Rosenau feed laboratory of the LK Lower Austria and
    • the Higher Federal Training and Research Institute for Agriculture ( HBLFA ) Raumberg-Gumpenstein .

The samples of grass or corn silage are taken by an expert sampler and chemically examined in the Rosenau feed laboratory for nutrient content, structural substances and fermentation quality . This year the grass silages will also be analyzed for sulfur content .

A questionnaire on silage management must be filled out so that various connections between silage work and silage quality can be derived during data evaluation. A specialist event will take place in spring 2025 where the results of the LK silage project will be presented and then the best three silage qualities from the silage championship will be awarded in several categories.

Further information about the LK silage project and the conditions of participation can be found from the feeding representatives of the Chambers of Agriculture and on the Internet at the Rosenau feed laboratory https://www.futtermittellabor.at/aktuelle-information  and available from the Austrian Association for Grassland and Livestock Industry https://gruenland-viehwirtschaft.at.
