Gumpenstein vineyard receives hail protection net

Gumpenstein vineyard receives hail protection net

On August 12th, the hail net was installed in the Gumpenstein vineyard by the viticulture team from the Silberberg agricultural college. The vines are developing well and are now optimally protected from the weather and browsing damage.

An exchange also took place regarding fertilizer recommendations, plant protection treatments, and the ongoing maintenance of the vineyard. The flowering strips, sown with the species-rich cover crop of the EU project VineAdapt, showed optimal vegetation cover against soil erosion and exhibited a high diversity of species and abundant flowering until mowing at the beginning of August.

In the driving lane and under the vines grow grass mixtures of lawn varieties that produce less biomass than grasses for grassland use and are also durable when driven over (fescue species, perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass).

We would like to thank our colleagues from Silberberg for their excellent collaboration on the VineAdapt project and for installing the net, and the entire vegetation team in Gumpenstein for their maintenance. The first harvest of our Muscaris vines is expected in 2025.
