Contemporary greenery in viticulture

    Contemporary greenery in viticulture

Project goal: Biodiversity in viticulture and adaptation to climate change

As part of the organic viticulture certificate course on May 11, 2023 in Wagna, Wilhelm Graiss and Katharina Gassner-Speckmoser gave a series of lectures on the creation and maintenance of contemporary greenery in viticulture. The invitation was given by the LFI Steiermark. The employees of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein presented scientific experiments and results in connection with the ongoing life project VineAdapt.

After the interesting lectures at Retz Castle, the almost 20 participants were able to bring in their company-specific approaches and thoughts on the topics at the workshop “Biodiversity in Viticulture” and “Adaptation to Climate Change”.

During the subsequent field tour at the VineAdapt partner winery “Neue Heimat” in Gamlitz, biodiversity vineyards were visited. In recent years, lanes have been professionally sown with species-rich mixtures; at the moment the daisy was already in bloom. The variety of species will provide food and nesting opportunities for insects. For interested visitors and guests, there is a colorful blooming picture between the vines.

Cellar master Christian Söll answered the course participants' questions and hopes that the biodiversity of the sown areas will be preserved for many years through extensive care.
