Calf and heifer rearing – the dairy cow of tomorrow!

The right calf nutrition sets the course for successful dairy farming at an early stage, as different feeding and rearing intensities have been proven to have an effect on the metabolism of the adult animals.

In a large-scale experiment - in cooperation with 16 Austrian agricultural colleges and higher educational institutions with cattle farming - it was examined how different drinking and rearing intensities affected the live mass and body size development, the age at first calving, the milk production and the useful life.

The results of the total of 171 animals in the experiment were presented at the Forum for Applied Research in Cattle and Pig Feeding in Germany.
