Efficient use of land and cost-effective production are the basis for economical dairy farming. The project therefore aims to compare two globally widespread milk production systems under Alpine production conditions.

In the full pasture system, dairy farms try to implement a "low-input or low-cost" strategy through efficient and cost-effective use of pasture feed. There is no supplementary feeding in the full pasture season and the aim is to achieve a high milk yield per hectare of pasture
The aim of the project is to comprehensively compare the milk production potential per unit area of the full pasture or stable feeding systems in the mountainous area of Austria over two growing seasons under the same conditions (same fodder area, same farm) .
