According to the operating concept of “graded management”, grassland areas with high yield potential should be intensively managed within an agricultural business. On the other hand, grassland areas that are difficult to manage and whose location conditions do not allow high yields should be managed extensively. Climate and soil are the decisive location factors for the yield potential. In order to be able to estimate the yield potential and thus the optimal management intensity for a location, good knowledge of the soil and its growth-promoting and inhibiting properties are necessary. The soil fan serves as a guide for independent assessment and evaluation of permanent grassland soils in the field.
