Basalt as a mineral fertilizer in agriculture for CO2 storage and phosphorus mobilization in permanent grassland soils (basalt)

Bohner Andreas, Dr.

Dr. Andreas Bohner

Environmental ecology

As part of the “European Green Deal” and in implementing the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, enormous efforts are necessary to reduce emissions of climate-damaging gases. In this context, the focus is on technologies for the capture and storage of atmospheric CO 2 , the “negative emission technologies”. One of these technologies is “Enhanced Weathering”.

The strategy is to remove 2 atmosphere in the long term by applying finely ground rock to agricultural land The aim of this research project is to quantify potential of volcanic rock dust (basalt ) on agricultural grassland areas

The research project is part of the DAFNE project BaLance CO2 (project no. 101723, project leader Dr. Thomas Rinner).
