Environmental ecology

Within the framework of the European Green Deal and in implementing the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, enormous efforts are needed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. In this context, technologies for the aforementioned capture and storage of atmospheric CO2, the so-called "negative emission technologies," are coming into focus. One of these technologies is "enhanced weathering."

 

The strategy is to remove CO2 from the in the long term by applying finely ground rock to agricultural landatmosphere . The aim of this research project is to quantify the potential of volcanic rock flour (basalt) on agricultural grassland with regard to carbon storage and phosphorus mobilization.

The research project is part of the DAFNE project BaLance CO2 (project no. 101723, project management Dr. Thomas Rinner).
