Environmental aspects of animal production

The staff of this department are responsible for conducting all cattle feeding trials at the Institute for Livestock Research, with a current focus on the efficiency and environmental impact of livestock farming. Their duties include:

  • Professional care of cattle (calves, fattening cattle, dairy cows, suckler cows) at the research farm
  • Investigation of the climate impacts of cattle farming
  • Recording of feed intake, milk yield and other experimental parameters in feeding projects
  • Conducting respiration measurements to estimate methane production in cattle
  • Experiment-specific sampling
  • Care of the experimental animals (cattle) at the research farm
