The aim of the teaching subject “Applied Computer Science” is to solve general, job-related problems using modern electronic tools.

The additional possibilities for obtaining and processing information represent a new cultural technique. The skills the students acquire from this support their work in other subjects and help in solving job-specific tasks.

In order to enable successful processing and use of the content areas, it is particularly important that the students also acquire important skills such as understanding, applying, analyzing and developing.

Computer science lessons consist of the following areas:

  1. Computer systems
    operating systems, basics of computer science
  2. Publication and communication
    PowerPoint, Word, online basics, web publishing
  3. Spreadsheet
    Excel, calculation and visual preparation of data
  4. Database
    access, construction and structuring of data
  5. Information technology, people & society
    IT security, online collaboration

The European Computer Driving License ECDL is the world's leading computer skills certificate. More than 15 million people participate in the program in more than 100 countries in more than 40 languages. The content and certification exams are internationally standardized and thus promote comparability and professional mobility. Outside Europe, the ECDL is called the International Computer Driving License (ICDL).

Goal

The ECDL program enables an internationally uniform standard for computer skills for users. The core elements are skills in using the most important programs such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint. The aim of the training is the professional and efficient use of the programs. In addition, a basic understanding of concepts such as data protection, legal issues on the Internet, ergonomics, privacy and IT security is conveyed.

Process and costs

The certificate consists of six compulsory modules (computer basics, presentation, word processing, online basics, Internet security, spreadsheets) and one compulsory module (online collaboration or databases or image editing).

In addition to regular computer science lessons in the 1st and 2nd years, students can voluntarily acquire this certificate.

External examiners are responsible for carrying out the examinations. The examination time is 45 minutes per module. A Skills Card fee of €37 must be paid once before the first exam. In addition, there is a fee of €15 per module for each examination. This results in a total cost of €142 for obtaining the certificate.
