Research as part of the diploma thesis

Since autumn 2020, our students Erich Deu, Matthias Hainzl and Manuel Schrempf have been working with various organizations whose common goal is to research Lake Altaussee.

The “Altaussee Project” had its origins in the “Einstein of the Oceans”, Walter Munk. Institutions such as BOKU Vienna, UNI Innsbruck, UNI Bern and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography came together for this reason. Our students from the environmental and resource management branch, whose thesis will also be related to the lake, helped out the Americans in autumn 2020 who were not allowed to enter the country due to the CoVid-19 pandemic and continued their investigations.

As the year progressed, they were also invited to attend or experience other research projects, which led to the cooperation between the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and BOKU Vienna, the UNI Innsbruck and the UNI Bern, etc. Since then, our students have visited the lake at regular intervals to advance their research project and thus their diploma thesis.

Here are some impressions and details about how the research was carried out

An expedition to Bear Island and a trip to America, California are currently planned for this summer. Both stays are in the service of research and are of essential importance for your diploma thesis.
