We were led by Ms. Hannelore Haas, who volunteers to maintain the museum. The tour of the exhibition begins on the ground floor, where you can experience a journey through time through several millennia in the Gröbming, Ennstal and surrounding areas. A highlight on this level is certainly the ton-heavy Roman marble stone, which comes from a celebratory grave and which also provides information about the former Gröbming settlement area. You can also find some really interesting finds from Alpine archaeology.
The peasantry was also discussed under the title “1000 years of peasant land” and this development of the peasantry from the year 1074 was described. This year, the donation of several farms to Admont Abbey is documented. This theoretical input was accompanied by high-quality exhibits (farmhouse, oven and bedroom).
Then we went to the first floor, which was dedicated to Gröbming. The comparison between then and now is done using impressive representations. In addition, we were also shown essential rights such as: B. market citizenship law since the 16th century, which is now also intended to serve as a safeguard against future challenges. Attention is also paid to some of Gröbming's personalities, including Agriculture Minister Franz Thoma and the world-famous doctor and nutrition pioneer Dr. Franz Xavier Mayer.
Last but not least, we went to the second floor for the special exhibition called “Stein Zeit Kunst”. The spectacular cave paintings from Europe, the Urals and also Indonesia, from times long past, were shown.
Special attention was also paid to a collection of European cabaret from the era between 10 - 45,000 years ago; Particularly worth mentioning is the Lion Man from the Swabian Alb, as well as the Venus of Willendorf and many other very exciting exhibits. All in all, it can be said that it was a very successful, informative and, above all, educational excursion for us.
Finally, some personal impressions of the visit:
Museum tours can be boring at times, but Ms. Haas's lively stories made the whole thing very interesting and I would definitely recommend it.
Thanks to the very good tour, the visit to Gröbming was very interesting and educational. You were able to take away a lot of new impressions from older times in the Gröbming region.
