Peat is created through the breakdown of organic material and is therefore a purely natural product.
The yeasts and humic acids it contains have a positive effect on the health of the pigs.
Peat is often fed to newly weaned piglets, especially when they have diarrhea.
Weaning piglets from their mother is a critical time. The sudden loss of their mother means stress for the piglets. Stress weakens the immune system and makes the piglets susceptible to illness - this is mainly diarrhea when weaning.
In organic pig farming, peat is only permitted as a rooting and activity material. It can be offered in a separate bowl or in a trough between meals.
