The plant height is recorded either with the ruler or with special growth height measuring devices through repeated and random measurements (at least 50 per appointment). In practice, the ruler method can be recommended in combination with a plastic lid. This procedure was developed at the LfL in Bavaria for practical operations. A 3-4 cm hole is cut into a plastic bucket lid (diameter approx. 30 cm). This lid is then randomly placed on the floor in front of your feet during the measurement. The grass growth height is then measured through the hole in the lid (distance from floor to bucket lid). You can also make your own convenient growth height measuring device.
A direct comparison of the results obtained using the different methods is not possible. For example, the values determined with the growth height measuring device (by the pressure of the heavy plate depending on the plant population and population density) are 50-70% of the simple ruler method.
