Heavy metal transfer in the soil-plant system in grassland ecosystems

Nature and environmental protection have gained great social importance in recent years. Above all, the focus of interest is on protecting the foundations of life, soil, water and air, as well as maintaining a high level of biodiversity.

A much-discussed topic is the contamination of soil with heavy metals, as these have a negative impact on its fertility, quality and functionality due to their potential toxicity. Heavy metals accumulate in the soil due to its high, but not unlimited, retention capacity. Heavy metals endanger soil organisms and plants directly via the soil and animals and people indirectly via plant-based food and feed.
