Technology Day for Fruit and Viticulture was held at the Silberberg Education Center for Fruit and Viticulture. The new display boards of the LIFE VineAdapt project were presented to the public directly at the test areas and provide an overview of the work packages that are already taking place: innovative greening of vineyard lanes and alternative understory vegetation management .
Viticulture in Europe is already struggling with the effects of climate change. Increasing periods of drought in summer, a high risk of erosion due to heavy rainfall and the immigration of new pests require innovative solutions. The LIFE VineAdapt project aims to help improve the resilience of vineyard ecosystems to climatic changes. What is crucial for this is increasing biodiversity and adapting the management of wine-growing areas.
Extensive data collection, sampling and observations are carried out, analyzed and evaluated in various work packages:
- Innovative greening of the vineyard lanes
- Alternative understory vegetation management
- Resource-efficient fertilization
- Resource-saving irrigation
- Transnational assessment of vineyard ecosystem services
LIFE VineAdapt has a term of five years. Until June 2025, eight practical and research partners from Germany, France, Hungary and Austria will be dedicated to the joint work packages. The work is rounded off by public relations and knowledge transfer measures.
