the Institute for Livestock Research has access to various stables for cattle, sheep and goats as research resources. The animal population consists of around 180 cattle (including almost 70 dairy cows of the Holstein Friesian, Fleckvieh and Brown Swiss breeds) and around 200 sheep and goats. Exact and husbandry experiments are carried out in the research fields of animal nutrition, alternative cattle farming, herd management and sheep and goat farming. - further information
In the Institute for Plant Production and Cultural Landscape, the scientific and systematic processing of all questions of plant production, especially grassland farming, takes place in conjunction with questions of the cultural landscape and rural areas. - further information
The Institute for Species-Appropriate Animal Husbandry and Animal Health researches and works on questions of species-appropriate animal husbandry, animal protection and animal protection law, the assessment of stable structures, stable facilities and husbandry systems with regard to function, animal welfare, and effects on animal health and the well-being of farm animals. - further information
The Institute for Organic Agriculture and Livestock Biodiversity works on questions about organic grassland and livestock farming, animal health, arable farming and legal issues in organic farming at three organically managed locations. Other focal points include work on the preservation of rare farm animal breeds in Austria. - further information
