Wound healing problems only occurred in 3% of the animals observed, anesthesia-related deaths hardly played a role and the cooperation with the veterinarian was rated as good to very good by 98% of the farmers. Across all farms, around 70% of all piglets observed had no or only minor defensive movements. In a second study, the effectiveness was significantly improved by adding an additional opioid (butorphanol).
The most important results of these studies were prepared as a TGD information sheet for veterinarians. This is sent by TGD Austria to all veterinarians and serves as the basis for piglet castration under anesthesia.
