    Paddock or short grass pasture?

In a pasture-based feeding system, the pasture area becomes the feeding table. As with stable feeding, the ration on this feeding table must be checked regularly. In addition to regular control and improvement of the plant population, the most important foundation is the choice of the pasture system that suits the business.

In paddock grazing, the desired growth height on the first day of grazing is a decisive factor for the number of paddocks required. The influence of different target growth heights on the annual yield and grass growth was examined on a permanent pasture area at the experimental farm of the Institute for Organic Agriculture and Livestock Biodiversity at the Higher Federal Teaching and Research Institute for Agriculture Raumberg-Gumpenstein in the vegetation year 2013.
