In addition, last year's results were presented, which are of great interest especially for the surrounding Alpine foothills. DI Clemens Flamm from AGES reported in detail on the large-scale variety trials for grain. All types of winter cereals, spring oats and spring wheat are on the test areas. In addition, the spring barley, which was about to be ready for harvest, could also be examined in autumn cultivation. The extremely well-developed varieties could be compared directly to spring cultivation. Representatives of our cooperation partner OÖ Boden.Wasser.Schutz.Beratung were also present and reported on this joint project. There was particularly great interest in the focus of crops for direct use as food. These consist of lentils mixed with various types of grain and camelina at different seed rates. Furthermore, numerous varieties of dry beans and chickpeas were presented and aroused the curiosity of the visitors. These tests are being carried out as part of a cross-border cooperation with the LfL in Bavaria. The harvest and variety trials for sweet potatoes were also exciting to follow. Interesting insights from the last few seasons have already been provided regarding sweet potato cultivation methods. The extensive variety and mulching trial for potatoes was also visited.
The Organic Field Day 2022 in Lambach was also an ideal opportunity to thank our deserving colleague DI Waltraud Hein. After dozens of field days over the past two decades, she informed the visitors competently as always and we wish her all the best for her upcoming retirement from February 2023!
