D r. Wilhelm Graiss has been appointed head of the department and will oversee Dr. Bernhard Krautzer take over. The existing orientation of the vegetation management department in the Alpine region with the current focus on ecological revegetation and the establishment of high-quality plant communities in terms of nature conservation and breeding and variety development for Austrian grassland will be maintained.

The principle of seed location appropriateness will be further expanded and supported with future experiments and research projects. The establishment and expansion of the grassland gene bank should be further promoted through collections and reproductions. The concept of regional wild plant mixtures is to be implemented in collaboration with farmers and nature conservation authorities throughout Austria.

The development of high-performance, adapted varieties for Austrian permanent grassland and the testing of the value properties of forage plants, taking future climatic conditions into account, will continue. Addressing questions about new planting, reseeding, overseeding and maintenance of grassland areas will also be the focus of future work.
