Intact peatlands provide numerous ecosystem services. They are large water reservoirs, the best carbon sinks among terrestrial ecosystems, and irreplaceable habitats for numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species. Most fens are potential forest sites.
Regular mowing of the meadows is essential for their preservation. A film about this was shot on September 5, 2022, in the Wörschacher Moos and the moors near Lake Ödensee for the science magazine PM-Wissen on Servus-TV. The experienced film crew led by Rosmarie Bundz was accompanied this time by our experts Andreas Bohner and Kurt Krimberger.
