Moorland excursion 2023

Among terrestrial ecosystems, intact bogs and peat soils are by far the best carbon sinks. Bogs and litter meadows are also valuable from a cultural-historical and nature conservation perspective. They provide habitat for numerous plant and animal species, thus increasing biodiversity in the cultural landscape. Purple moor grass meadows, sedge marshes, and reedbeds are also unique litter meadows.

during the 2023 moorland excursion :

  • peat soils,
  • Moorland vegetation,
  • Ecosystem services and landscape ecological functions of peatlands,
  • Causes of endangerment of peatlands,
  • Management , maintenance and protection measures ,
  • Renaturation (rewetting) and
  • Biotope management.

As part of the moorland excursion, on the first day we will visit the moors in the vicinity of Raumberg-Gumpenstein: the Trautenfels nature reserves, the Obersdorf and Ödensee moors, the Pürgschachen moor and the Pichlmaier moor. On the second day we will first go to the Wörschacher moor and then up to the Spechtensee lake near Wörschachwald.
