Measures to optimize yields on organic grassland

The general conditions and knowledge about grassland have changed significantly in recent decades. On the one hand, today attempts are being made to save concentrates in ruminant feeding using the best basic feed, but on the other hand this has a major impact on the use of grassland and its stocks.

Organic farms in particular rely on basic feed that is used in a timely manner, as this allows feeding costs to be reduced due to expensive concentrated feed purchases. However, intensifying use always has an impact on the species composition in grassland. In order for the stocks to be able to provide good yields, there must not only be a suitable grass population, but also a very active soil that is optimally supplied with nutrients. The topic of reseeding and fertilization in permanent grassland is therefore still relevant.

The two topic areas of reseeding and fertilization in permanent grassland are the areas that are being investigated and worked on in the Bio-Institut's current experiments.
